About this game
Road Hopper is a timing game on a fixed grid. The screen is split into a road half and a river half. On the road, everything that touches you kills you. On the river, the water kills you and the moving objects are the only safe ground — which flips your instincts halfway through every run.
Movement is one hop per key press with the arrow keys, or one tap per hop on the on-screen pad. There is no way to move faster, so the entire game is choosing the exact moment to commit. Each forward hop is worth 10 points, reaching a home slot is 50 plus whatever time is left on the clock, and filling all five slots pays a large stage bonus.
The two traps that end most runs: drifting off the side of the screen while riding a log, and stepping onto a turtle group that is about to dive. Turtles flash before they submerge — treat the flash as a hard deadline. On the road, aim for the gap behind a fast vehicle rather than in front of a slow one.
Each completed stage speeds the traffic and shortens the timer. Grid-based crossing games like this were the calmest-looking and most punishing cabinets of the early 1980s, and they translate perfectly to a phone.
