About this game
Brick Breaker is the purest ball-and-paddle game there is. Eight rows of bricks sit at the top of the screen, you have a paddle at the bottom, and one ball bouncing between them. Break every brick to clear the wall; drop the ball three times and the run is over.
The paddle follows your mouse, the left and right arrow keys, or your finger on touch. Angle control works exactly like a rally game: hitting the ball with the middle of the paddle returns it steeply upward, while hitting it near an edge sends it out at a shallow, fast angle. That is the whole skill ceiling, and it is deeper than it sounds.
Scoring rises with height — the bottom rows are worth 1 point each and the top rows 7 — and the ball speeds up permanently after your fourth hit, after your twelfth, and again when you first break into the top two rows. That means the wall gets harder exactly as it gets emptier.
The move every good player learns is the tunnel: chip a vertical channel up one side of the wall so the ball slips behind the bricks and clears rows from above while you wait safely at the bottom. Ball-and-brick games have been the default single-player arcade puzzle since the mid-1970s, and the format has never needed changing.
